Self Portrait Project
Project Description:
For this project, we were tasked with creating a self portrait whether through photography and/or photoshop. To what extent does a work of art depend on the viewer’s point of view?
Because art is often created to be shown to an audience, it is the audience's point of view that is most recognized when the art is exhibited. No matter what the intentions are of the artist, once they put down their paintbrush it is up to the audience to interpret the piece. Although I do believe that the intentions of the artist are important and say a lot about the art piece, it is not always known what those intentions are and therefore is left for the viewers to figure out for themselves. What problem solving skills are employed in making visual reflections of self? It is often hard to think about oneself and properly represent that perception through art. One problem solving skills that is crucial to creating a self-portrait is being open. Being open allows one to more easily self reflect. If a person is afraid to be open, it limits the deep reflection they can do, which can often lead to an unauthentic portrait. Self portraits also require perseverance because it is challenging to find photos and editing tools to use that truly represent oneself. It can be time consuming and challenging which requires persistence. |
