Project Description:
The Model Senate Project was a project to understand the U.S. senate. We were required to research the two issues our class chose to focus on; the Financial Committee focused on the Federal Budget and the EPW Committee focused on climate change. We also had to write and vote on legislation as well a give a speech that addressed the topic assigned to our committee. My role was Minority Whip so I was not assigned to a specific committee, therefore I had to write a speech about each topic and did not write legislation. In my role, my job was to "whip" my party into shape to make sure the whole party was voting the way they should, as well as communicating with the opposing party to work out compromises. |
Writing Reflection #1
4th Amendment Mini Project
Mini Project Description/ReflectionWhat are our rights under the 4th Amendment? How to we balance our right to privacy and the need for safety? These were some of the questions we addressed during this mini project. There were three parts to this project: First, we researched our topic of interest, then we used our research to create an engaging and informative project. We could choose any form of presentation, whether it was a poster, info-graphic, comic strip, skit, or video. After we created our visual or audio project, we presented to our classmates.
Coming into this project I thought I knew more about our rights than I actually knew. Once I realized our rights aren’t black and white, I was fascinated with why this was the case. Why can our privacy be taken away even without probable cause? Why is it that in some cases reasonable suspicion is sufficient? Why do our rights drastically change when we enter school? These were questions that I found to be most interesting and wanted to address in my project. I knew that I couldn’t tackle all of these questions so I chose to focus on a topic that is relevant to the entire student body: What are our rights inside and outside of school? How do they differ? I always like to know all of the rules and this includes exceptions to the rules. Being able to research the exceptions to our rights inside of school was exciting and I knew it would connect with students who will see my poster in the hallways. |
